Jesus Never Changes
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
On Tuesday, I took a quick trip to South Florida to see my mother. Although the drive was smooth and the visit was positive, I was reminded once again how fast life can change. It seems like just yesterday that my mother was a sharp, successful mom, wife, and real estate broker who now lives in a memory care facility among hollow-eyed men and women who were probably as capable and competent as she once was.
Life is full of change, both good and bad. I don’t know about you, but I tend to expect God to protect me and my loved ones from pernicious change. However, I have learned that everyone, even Christians, goes through unfortunate and undesirable change. So, how can we get better at managing change instead of feeling like we're just struggling through it? The Bible provides some really good advice.
…Change is a part of life; try to see it as a gift from God (Romans 8:28).
…Change can be painful, but also a time for growth (John 15:1-2).
…When you go through change, remember:
…God is faithful (1 Corinthians 1:9; Psalm 34:4).
…God loves you (Romans 8:35-39).
…God’s Word provides the answer for everything you face (Psalm 119:105).
…God will work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28; Proverbs 19:21).
We can view change as either a friend to embrace or an enemy to fight. But by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, who never changes, we will come out on the other side victorious in Him.
The Lord’s peace be with you!
Joe
