Rocks Split Open

“The warriors of Ephraim, though armed with bows, turned their backs and fled on the day of battle. They did not keep God’s covenant and refused to live by his instructions. They forgot what he had done— the great wonders he had shown them, the miracles he did for their ancestors on the plain of Zoan in the land of Egypt. For he divided the sea and led them through, making the water stand up like walls! In the daytime he led them by a cloud, and all night by a pillar of fire. He split open the rocks in the wilderness to give them water, as from a gushing spring. He made streams pour from the rock, making the waters flow down like a river! Yet they kept on sinning against him, rebelling against the Most High in the desert.” (PSALM 78:9-17)

Have you ever had a really good day and allowed something small to derail it? I can tell you confidently that it has happened to me. Multiple times. The psalmist today reminds us of the frivolity of man and the danger that our human nature brings us. He recalls the unbelievable acts of God and how he moved with power over Egypt. He also recalls just how quickly the people of God allowed the necessities of life or inconveniences to derail their faith in God.

They are the same things you and I deal with everyday. They were hungry, tired, hot/cold, and they had no place to call home. Although they saw the mighty works of God. As life happened and hardships began, they forgot how much God had provided and His promise to continue to provide.

Do not forget all that the Lord has and is doing in your life. Do not allow life to cloud the mighty deeds of God and His promise to work for the good of His people.

Peace!
